Scarborough will host the Olympic Flame in Albert Campbell Square on Dec. 17.
Scarborough Councillors last week granted the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay permission to carry an open flame and use “Special effects pyrotechnics" that day in the Scarborough Civic Centre Square.
The time and route of the torch run has not been revealed yet for security reasons.
However, the flame will come to Albert Campbell Square some hours before Scarborough’s Vicky Sunohara, a two-time gold medal winner with the Canadian women’s hockey team, lights a cauldron at Nathan Philips Square in the early evening to spark a celebration around city hall at 6.00 p.m.
Around 200 torch bearers will bring the flame that day to as many parts of the city as possible.
The Scarborough Civic Centre is located at 150 Borough Drive and Albert Campbell Square is between the Civic Centre and Scarborough Tower Centre.
