Free Writing Exercise: 李亞倫作文原文

The following is the essay Cary-Grove student Allen Lee wrote in his English class, as well as two notes from Lee explaining his writing. Note to readers: The essay contains graphic language that some readers may find offensive. Some of the text of the letter have been edited because it did not meet the standards for publication.

Blood sex and Booze. Drugs Drugs Drugs are fun. Stab, Stab, Stab, S…t…a…b…, poke. “So I had this dream last night where I went into a building, pulled out two P90s and started shooting everyone…, then had sex with the dead bodies. Will, not really, but it would be funny if I did.” Umm, yeah, what to wright about…… I’m leaving to join the Marines and I really don’t give a F*** about my academics, so why does the only class that’s complete Bull S***, happen to be the only required class…enough said. The model citizen would stay around to vote in new board member to change the 4 years of English policy, but no one really stays around to vote for that kind of local crap, so whoever gets there name on the Ballet with a pretty face gets to do what the F*** ever they want with local ordinance. A person is smart, but people are dumb selfish animals. We can’t make rules for ourselves so we vote others to do it for us, but we can’t even do that right, I meen seriously, Bush for President? And our other option was John Kerry who claimed to partake in Vietnam Special Forces missions that haven’t been declassified….F***ing Bull S***. So Power Flower Super Mario. Pudge, hook, rot, dismember “Fresh Meat.” Most new/young teachers are laid back, and cooperative with students as feedback and input into the curriculum and atmosphere. My current English teacher is a control freak intent on setting a gap between herself and her students like a 63 year old white male fortune 500 company CEO, and a illegal immigrant. If CG was a private catholic school I could understand, but wtf is her problem. And baking brownies and rice crispies does not make up for it, way to try and justify yourself as a good teacher while underhandidly looking for complements on your cooking. No quarrel on you qualifications as a writer, but as a teacher, don’t be surprised on inspiring the first cg shooting.

The following “Author’s Note" was also passed out to students at school:

Author’s Note: This production of the writing is done in the most accurate manner I can depict of the original writing. Grammar and spelling mistakes are included at the best accuracy possible. The first phrase in questions is in fact a Green Day song. The second reference to drugs is in relation to the schools history of drug problems. I am personally clean of all controlled substances. The statement in quotes is done so as a non personal statement as I would have done in reference to a character for a story. The reference to the gun P90 is from a video game, combined with a reference to necrophilia as a comment regarding a seriously messed up situation. A situation such as the rape of villagers during a raid by U.S. troops in Vietnam. I really do not care too much about by continuing academia as in relation to grades. I do however believe on continuing my personal education, and I am actually still working for my classes. My views on the graduation requirements explain themselves. The reference to Mario and Pudge(a DOTA character) are completely random in this essay. The reference to a person being smart and people being dumb is based on a quite from “Men in Black.” I generally do believe the public opinion is best. The rest of the essay is rather self explanatory, the main statement in question I have already released a comment online about. I request that all information I have released is read together, and nothing is given separately or as an excerpt as the administration has seen fit to do.

On an additional note, I have completed the MEPS (Military Entry Processing Station) examinations, and yes a psychiatric evaluation is included in the process. If I’m qualified to defend the country, I believe I am qualified to attend school.

  3. it is a very disturbing writing/essay to me. It’s very hard yo track a psycho. a lot of them a like an ordinary person. All quotes should be in double quotes (“), he didn’t do that. I think he is an anti-social psycho. The thing that he passed Marine test has not much meaning. Lee doesn’t look right for me, he either has some problem or he is a genuine genius as long as he doesn’t hurt anyboby. For Lee, maybe you think the police are overreacted, but for you, don’t you want the police to catch the speeding or drunk drivers, before they hit you?

  6. Okay. So the kid has a few unresolved issues. He’s bitter at the system and the people who enforce it, but aren’t we ALL a little fed up these days? I’ll admit, he could have expressed his opinions in a more conventional or appropriate manner, but the way I see it, this is a HUGE over-reaction. I understand that mainstream attention has increased substantially on teen violence recently (especially after the Virginia Tech shootings.) Everyone is in a state of shock/grief right now. But this isn’t an issue that will just “blow over" if we ignore it. This is also not an issue we can analyze and focus on for a few weeks and then ignore completely until the next massacre.

Teen violence/drug abuse has always been (and always will be) a serious concern in our school system. The answer is NOT to over-react when a student shows a strange (okay…BIZARRE) way of expression through writing. We’re not here to judge and we’re not here to criticize. We’re here to solve a real problem. You will never know what this young man is capable of (whether it be good or bad) until you give him a chance. If you throw him in jail now, you may never know. You’ll argue, of course, that it will simply be too late if he turns out to be a real psycho. REMEMBER: the problem will NOT go away on its own. But it WILL worsen if we simply muffle/drug/arrest anyone who even SOUNDS like they might own a My Chemical Romance CD.

For god’s sake, GET OFF YOUR ASS AND HELP THESE PEOPLE! Start with the ones you encounter everday in your daily lives. Love them. Cherish them. Your friends. Your family. TALK to them. Say ‘I Love You’ to at least one person in your life everyday. THIS is the answer: Love.

And trust me, when you’re just blowing off some steam, even your writing can get pretty twisted. Now, if I sound insane to you, that’s fine. That is your opinion and yours alone. I can tell you right now that I am quite sane and quite capable of differentiating right from wrong. But life has a history of pissing people off. If one person (one very angry person, of course) can’t write a short 300 word essay without getting arrested, there is definitely something wrong there.

Don’t just nod along to everything you hear. THINK about the issue and DO something about it. This is no longer a taboo subject. The silence stops now. I ENCOURAGE YOU to have an opinion to counter my own. The only way we can put a stop to violence in our schools (FOR GOOD) is to TALK ABOUT IT!

  7. 誰負誰勝出天知曉

    誰是誰非只記今朝

  8. Regardless of whether he is a straight A student or a high IQ genius, I would question his EQ (Emotional Quotient) in light of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Perhaps, he is just a rebellious kid with some issues with society or he really has the potential to be another copycat. The psychiatric professionals should be able to determine that

For now, what he needs is a high AQ (Adversity Quotient) to pull himself through the aftermath.

  9. I absolutely agree with everyone’s (especially Abby and Cytodex 兄’s) posts. There are nevertheless some points I really need to add to this thread. I hope I can somehow find a way to send our messages to the proper authorities so they can act accordingly:

    1. Decades ago, I used some harsh words to criticize my mother in front of my brother. He said, “How dare you say that?” I replied, “Does it mean my criticism doesn’t exist in my mind if these words didn’t come out from my mouth?” This incident bears striking similarity to Allen Lee’s incident, except that he is now heading straight to a jail cell but I was not because my harsh words were by no means violent in nature.

    2. If a copycat lurking somewhere in the dark sees this, do you think he will reveal his twisted thoughts (like what Allen Lee and Cho Seung-Hui did) to the public in any shape or form now, after knowing what has happened to Lee?

    3. As adults, whether we like it or not, most, if not all, images (still and animated) depicted in Allen Lee’s essay are readily available to be viewed almost anywhere our children can lay their hands on – the (in)famous Japanese “anime” Manga in comic books and on the Internet; TV (e.g. CityTV) programming; movies (e.g. Saw I, II, and III); video games (e.g. Medal of Honor); news, etc. When their minds, starting like an empty tank to be filled with whatever they come across, are bombarded with these violent messages, we should celebrate it when someone explicitly puts these thoughts in words so we know who needs immediate psychological counselling or at least more understanding – NOT some jail time. Is handing out jail time to Lee who only put these violent thoughts on paper going to help him rehabilitate from a “corrupt mind” or is it going to light up his agitation against the society because his civil rights on freedom of expression has been violated – after we have presumed him guilty without even perpetrating the acts described in his essay? What kind of repercussions do you think he would suffer in his life after serving his brief jail term? Remember, people with high IQ are almost never reactive in their behaviour, they proactively pursue their “dreams” – be they good or evil!

    4. To say the least, our penal system is but a joke. Take Florida as an example, 29,000 inmates were released from state prisons last year and 13,000 were expected to return for a felony conviction. Were these repeat offenders expected to commit felony again because their fates were sealed the moment they came out from their mothers’ wombs with “XXY” chromosomes in their bodies, or simply because we have already devastated their self-worthiness so much by requiring them to serve some jail time? We may never be able to tell but one thing is for sure. The preconception that throwing criminals in jail could “teach them a good lesson” is not working – at least almost 50 percent of the time. (Trust me, I get better odds playing a few games of roulette at Casino Niagara!)

In a word, locking up one Allen Lee is just a politically correct band-aid approach to a growing concern of violent messages our children are receiving on a daily basis. There are still hundreds, thousands, or even more yet invisible Allen Lee’s lurking out there who are not even half as articulate as Allen Lee and therefore won’t surface into the headlines of all major newspapers in the world until, one day, they dramatically strike out. The ultimate solution is: Making a genuine attempt to eradicate the root causes of these behaviours is what we should focus on, not just to deal with individual cases on a presumed-guilty basis when we happen to come across these “killer’s manifestos”.

P.S. To answer 一聽眾君’s question: Clear rules are normally established in all schools that eating, drinking, harassment and any other inappropriate behaviour in classrooms/lab rooms are not tolerated, whether the teacher enforces these rules is sometimes up to the individual teacher though.
